Once, it was a limestone quarry. After
it stopped producing quality limestone, it was primarily used
for recreation by Elora residents. After 1976, when the Grand River
Conservation Authority took over, people for many miles around
discovered the treasure that was hidden below the cliffs of the Elora quarry |

One of the most striking features in the area of Elora and
Fergus is the large number of beautiful stone buildings. Like
so many of the old buildings in Europe, the stonemasons crafted
these buildings with precision and quality that was intended
to last for hundreds of years.
When you look at one of these fine stone structures in Elora or Fergus, you
are probably looking at stones and/or mortar that came out of this quarry.
Both Elora and Fergus have printed walking tours, as
well as online walking tours, and conducted walking tours
of the scenic spots and historical buildings.

First sunshine of the day
hits the beach down at the far end
